So I mentioned last week that I had played a Larrivee' mahogany topped guitar and it was the best sounding guitar I've EVER played. So I asked if anyone had specs on how to top a guitar with mahogany. Well, at church yesterday the kid that owns it had a case with him and asked if I could adjust his action. Sure enough it was the Larrivee' so I grabbed it as fast as I could. Normally I would say no to a repair and send him to one of the techs in town. But the thought of this being in my shop for me to measure/photograph/study was too much to pass up. I can post my findings if anyone is interested. |

Paul, I would be very interested and grateful. I'm considering rebuilding a trashed 60s Gibson LG-0. It's not a terribly collectible guitar, needs a neck reset from a bowed ladder-braced top, is missing half of its binding and badly checked finish, has several cracks (but otherwise in good condition!), so I might re-brace it. I'd be curious to know something about the Larivee's bracing, top thickness, etc. Pat |

It actually sounded pretty nice for a while till the top bellied too much and the screw-on bridge started tipping up. I removed the back about two or three years ago but haven't done anything with it since. I'll have to post a pic when I get home, when I opened it, it looked like someone poured some epoxy into the soundhole and shook it all around. |
